Key Issue
Implementing new ways to increase revenues
Like most Cities within California, our budget is dependent upon sales tax and property tax. Internet sales are cutting into our sales tax base requiring innovative ways to offset the balance. Fortunately, our property values continue to increase making Aliso Viejo more and more attractive to future owners.
To address these issues I would work with my fellow councilmembers to:
Attract a third hotel.
The Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) accrued from our local hotels goes directly to the city budget, which helps offset the recent drop in sales tax revenue.
Attract and diversify locally relevant businesses.
We need to attract a wider variety of stores so that we do not have to leave the city in order to shop for unavailable items.
Attract High Paying Jobs.
I also believe that by attracting more high paying jobs we will increase our sales tax and property tax.
